"Sensitization plays a great role in solving the problem"

Community outreach and education are essential components of a comprehensive approach to ending fistula.  LEFI’s model for carrying out this critical work is based on the belief that local people who live in the communities being served will be the most effective educators and advocates. We assembled and intensively trained a dedicated team of Regional Representatives in 2011, and have provided additional training annually to ensure that they continue building their knowledge and skills.  Our Regional Representatives organize and carry out outreach sessions in their own communities to educate about what fistula is, what causes it, how to prevent it, and and how to access free treatment.  These sessions take place wherever people gather —churchs, schools, public markets, sports events, medical facilities — targeting women, men and youth.
